The 1997 Kyoto Protocol
was killed by the 2007 U.N. IPCC Report
The United Nations is working on a new Kyoto Treaty.
They need to replace the old Kyoto Protocol.
The old Kyoto Treaty was based on four carbon molecules,
created by industrialization, which caused global
warming. They combined to create a ‘carbon footprint’
which needed to be offset by ‘carbon credits’.
Things changed with the 2007 United Nations
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Reports.
Report 2 states that the rate of growth of the four
greenhouse gasses has diminished. Methane had a negative
growth rate for most of this decade. The Report’s
official response, ‘The reasons for the decrease in the
atmospheric CH4 (Methane Gas) growth rate and the
implications for future changes in its atmospheric
burden are not understood (Prather et al., 2001) but are
clearly related to changes in the imbalance between CH4
sources and sinks.’
In science, when the results differ from the theory, the
theory needs to be re-evaluated.
Methane was important because it reflects 20-28 times
more energy than CO2. With Methane diminishing, the
focus is shifting to CO2 as the only causal effect.
The problem is that CO2 has never been a causal factor
in global warming. It is always an indicator. When the
graphs that display the correlation between global
warming and CO2 are overlaid, it becomes obvious that
first our planet warms, and then CO2 increases. Global
warming causes increased CO2, not the other way around.
It’s like the carpenter who says, ‘Every time my thumb
hurts, I hit it with a hammer.’
The global warming theories did not predict the weather
patterns of the last few years. 2006 was the hottest
year of the decade, but 2008 was the coldest and 2009 is
colder. There is a missing piece in the global warming
theories. That missing piece will simplify everything
and stop the concern over global warming or global
cooling. That missing piece will be discussed in a
future article.
